I know exactly what you mean; it's a lot of what I meant about feeling like they fell too much into the "fat is _the_ problem" approach, although it was still pretty head and shoulders above any other recent "TV-newsish" obesity coverage I've seen, at least in terms of whether "getting skinny" is even a realistic or reasonable expectation. I think the coverage of that poor kid trying to deal with his family was the hardest for me to watch in that regard. Whatever decision he made about surgery, I just wanted to drop him in the middle of some fat-positive culture and give him a break from all that crap.
Oprah makes me crazy for the self-loathing diet crap, and also for the touchy-feeling faux-spirituality quick fix crap (The Secret just makes me gag). Give me some Queen Latifah and Camryn Manheim any day of the week.
