I'm feeling substantially better today (slept almost from the time I got home last night), and thinking about stuff to accomplish. I called my Rep (Stephanie Tubbs-Jones) to thank her for opposing the Amber Alert with the RAVE addition. I've been so consistently happy with her voting record and platforms that I also volunteered to... um, well, be a volunteer, I guess. I've been thinking about doing so for a while, but I wanted to get a better sense of her (I'd been peripherally aware of her since I moved to Cleveland, but she wasn't my rep 'til I moved to Tremont this past summer). This Amber Alert bill finally pushed my decision over the edge. She's going to take a public relations hit for having done the ethical thing under the circumstances, and I think she deserves support from those of us who understand why she did it.
I'm also working on looking up info on teen pregnancy support; my coworker has been talking for a while about wanting to find a way to do some volunteer work with pregnant teens, and I also ran into a homeless pregnant girl on the way to work this morning who now has my phone number. So, between the two concerns (finding volunteer work for Donna and resources in case the girl calls me), I'm spending most of the morning doing research. For Donna, I called Planned Parenthood and asked who they refer patients to when they're low-income/difficult circumstances and continuing a pregnancy, and got some leads that she can call and find out if those orgs need volunteers. I've also got a decent number of print-outs with resource info for the girl from this morning. NEOCH (north-east Ohio Coalition for the Homeless) does an excellent street-card with resource listings for a huge number of different types of free programs (and has client reviews of many on their website, too).
Sometime this coming week I need to write up a brief article about local bi stuff for the Pride Guide edition of the GPC; I just got a request for that, and it's due by early May. I've also got a shitload to do on Bi Resource Guide listings that I've been procrastinating on for months, and the due date is fast approaching (June). And one of our local kink resources just sent out an email stating that their next program will be on bisexuality, so I emailed them to find out if I can forward that announcement to the bineohio mailing list, and will probably try to attend myself, just to see how it's presented. When I emailed them I mentioned my affiliation with the local groups, so I'm hoping they might ask for some resource info, but I didn't want to be particularly pushy about it. Kim's started work on the new Bi NE Ohio webpage, and I'm finding I'm having to keep a tight rein on my control freak tendencies, even though I want someone else to work on it, and I haven't updated the damn thing myself in months. Oh, and as long as I'm recording reminders to myself about stuff to do; I need to get the survey forms about BECAUSE 2004 out to the local bi group, and back to the organizers.
Tomorrow we get the title transfered on Olivia's car (hereafter refered to as "Medusa", since it was her name for it, and I think it suits), and tags, plates, etc. After that, we'll actually be mobile again, at least around the city (I'm not sure Medusa's up for roadtrips). Still pondering to what extent I'll continue to use RTA. I think it'll probably depend on my energy level, and what else I need to accomplish that day.

Date: 2003-04-25 02:48 pm (UTC)I don't know why I'm particularly delighted by your antics today. It's just that so many people blah blah blah and you actually do something. Bravo!
Of course, I'm in no way planning on deviating from my own personal misanthropic sloth. But part of that is just that it's so damned much fun to say "misanthropic sloth" I heartily reccommend using it as a verbal epithet.
As for public trans. I've stopped bumming rides to work and instead prefer the vastly inefficient bus system. even though I have to wake up an hour earlier (at least)I find that the walking, and often as not singing and dancing as I often have to wait long periods for busses, gets my body far more energized than riding in a car does. Plus it provides a greater variety of sights. But again, I tend to favor the impractical when it is amusing. and the impractical is almost always the more amusing choice. More serious people might find such methods, wasteful and annoying. The misanthropic sloths!
