I've argued for a while that the Dems have been VERY poor at getting out the message in a clear, concise, and articulate way which attracts voters. By not playing off the psychology of fear, you give up the easy emotional route to voters and therefor must work that much harder at blocking the fearmongering while providing the information in a way that doesn't turn off voters.

The exemption of workers from overtime is part of the reason a lot of retail workers are screwed royally in terms of pay and compensation. While less "empathetic" it is also a problem for low and middle level white collar workers. The average accountant will spend 50 to 80 hours a week working, and is salaried. While the salary is far better than many fields, it is certainly not fair compensation for the work, just as it is by no means fair compensation for many of the retail "managers". It's an across the board problem for just about every industry, and if we ever want to get to the point of having reasonable "free time" again, i.e. not working ourselves to death, then we're going to have to lay down the law at some point and deny businesses (particularly corporations) the ability to drive down pay and up profits while exploiting the bottom rungs of their workers.

PBS/NPR/APT are all a wreck. Sadly I still prefer them to regular television. "Ask this old house" and "NOVA".

I can't even begin to tell you what I know is wrong with the tax industry, ranging from the private collection of taxes by corporations, to the selling to tax debt to collection agencies or investment banks. It's a disaster.

Ugh, more times where being an athlete = right to abuse others with little or no consequence.

*grumbles about people not getting a clue about how to analyze increases in costs and premiums* The healthcare is a short term increase, long term decrease, and the companies are using it as an excuse to maximize the rate increases to maximize profits for the short term before they have to change policy standards. Remember the point of a corp, which most are, is to make the largest profit possible.

There have been a lot of complaints about the methodology of "generic ballot" polling, and significant issues with misrepresentation because of voter refusal to participate (robo calls), voters being inaccessible (land line free households), and poorly worded polling. Gallup is not immune/exempt from these complaints. This results in some very odd polls, and a general shift in the poll of up to about 3% towards the democrats above what is actually being polled.

Wah Wah, my right to be a bigoted asshole is being infringed upon. It's not fair that I can't judge people, bully them, assault them, or otherwise deny them fair and free enjoyment of their lives and choices that are protected by the constitution and even are granted by my own faith as a part of free will. Wah Wah. Fucking assholes.

Why the hell did the Onion choose Huntsville and not some places along the coast? (I'd have picked Gainesville Florida personally.)

As to long hair, I prefer it on women of all ages. This whole you have to be X age to wear something drives me fucking insane. I hate the fashion industry and the media culture that sops it up without ever considering what it's attempting to feed the rest of us. Crap mostly.
