Dave's been happy with Sarah Vowell, kitanzi was enjoying The Know It All last I heard, and Lies My Teacher Told Me is interesting, although a slow read because there's a lot of information in there. The Pirates! books are great fun. Cory Doctorow is highly recommended by several local folks 'round these parts, although I haven't read any of it myself.
