Excellent weekend

Just too little time at the moment to write about it. Escorting was extra-fun; it was me and Casey, and a new guy that we've decided gets the Sarah and Casey stamp of approval -- great conversations all day, which makes the time pass so much faster, and makes it easier to cope with some of the particularly obnoxious tactics from the antis (they've really been pushing the limits of the FACE act in terms of standing in front of vehicles).

The rest of Saturday was excellent and enjoyable social time with a few folks, and general household hang-out as well. Sunday was chill to the point of comatose; finally caught up on some sleep, but less housekeeping than I'd meant.

Oh. Well, got some more time to write after all. Our phone switch just died. I work on a helpdesk. We're rather paralysed at the moment.

So, back to Sunday. Went to the first CYPRUS meeting (which I'd posted about a week or so ago -- the new local kink/alternative sexualities 18-25 group in the area), which was fun, even if the restaurant seated us in the least convenient way possible. I'll definitely be returning.

Right now I'm going back and adding to GoodReads all the books I've read from the "Books Read" page of my "Books to Read" spreadsheet. So, [livejournal.com profile] leveldeaded and [livejournal.com profile] patentpink, I think you're about to get a really ridiculous number of notifications all at once. Sorry about that.

Currently reading Sex Collectors: The Secret World of Consumers, Connoisseurs, Curators, Creators, Dealers, Bibliographers, and Accumulators of "Erotica". It's a very light read so far; fun, but as much about the author's journey as about what he found.

Yay! notifications! as long as I don't have to process them myself (ala work) I LOVE notifications!

Perfect! I no longer feel guilty about adding 129 items in one day, then.

totally, we did the same kind of thing.

I actually found other people who had read the book I'm reading about The Origins of Consciousness in the Break Down of the Bicameral mind!

other people who had read The Origins of Consciousness in the Break Down of the Bicameral mind who have a sense of HUMOR about it!!

what a great site!

I like goodreads notifications! I am nosy; I love to see what people have read/are reading. I have super fun with it.

Well then, 129 items of super fun coming your way! (it's all the books I've read since January of 06, I believe).

Ooo, what's your username on Good Reads? I want to add you. =)

I'm very much still getting the hang of the site (still haven't figured out how to put in "currently reading"; no matter what option I choose, it just tells me I have nothing listed under that shelf, and doesn't give me an option to add), but I guess they're using email addresses as the usernames, from what I can tell, so I should be findable as sarah.whitman.young at gmail.

Did you originally link me to this?

The bit about collectors reminded me of "the Necronomicon of Porn"; have you seen that?

Also, let me know if you got a chance to read any of the books I recommended; I'm always interested in others' opinions. (If you're still taking recs, I greatly enjoyed His Dark Materials (I have a PDF copy if you'd like), as well as Bob Altemeyer's The Authoritarians.)

I'm checking my spreadsheet. I've finished Structures, or Why Things Don't Fall Down, A Fire Upon the Deep, A Deepness in the Sky, Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith, What's the Matter With Kansas?, and V for Vendetta (all of which I have you listed as recommending or co-recommending). I've read the Dark Materials series already, although I'm adding The Authoritarians to the spreadsheet. I've been quite happy with the recs; I've developed a substantial fondness for Vinge (just read his most recent earlier this month), I unsurprisingly loved V for Vendetta, and Structures was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

I've currently got Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid home from the library, although I haven't started it yet. Other than that, I've still got about a dozen recs from you on the "To Read" side of the spreadsheet.

Ha! That icon's from Saved, isn't it?

Anyway, they've really, really been pushing the "blocking entrances" issue, and since we don't call the cops when we're at that clinic, we can't do anything about it. We've seen a bunch of near accidents, Requiem (the redhead who speaks in tongues) just standing stock-still in the middle of the driveway in front of an SUV trying to get past her, and Jesus John really pushing the limits by taking the most time he can to get out from in front of them. Cars are having to dodge almost onto the grass to try to navigate around them, and they know they can keep getting away with pushing it further and further.
