I'm indescribably psyched about this!
I was talking to one of my coworkers, and she told me that the Cole Eye Institute could do payroll deduction to pay for my glasses (I work for the Cleveland Clinic, Cole's a part of it, and where I was getting my glasses anyway). I called to double-check, and I'm in the lists as approved for it, so I'm going in after work today! The cost will be split over the next three months, beginning in the middle of October.
This is a beautiful, wonderful thing. I've got incredibly bad vision -- 20/1200, or thereabouts. Since I lost my glasses in June, I've been stuck with one sample pack of contact lenses. Without glasses to change into, I've been wearing them basically 24/7, sometimes taking out one at a time to soak overnight, so I'm only half-blind for the time period. It's really bad for my eyes (I've had problems with pannus in the past), and it leaves me incredibly nervous about having a contact tear, or ending up with an eye infection, or any of a number of situations where I'd be pretty well incapacitated without a backup pair of glasses. Not to mention the serious worries about damaging my eyes further. It's been a pretty-much daily stressor, and I'm feeling amazingly relieved at having a way out of that.
