I normally work 9-5:30. Today I'm covering for a coworker, so I'm working 7-3:30. This works out really well for me, since today is payday, and it gives me time this afternoon to get to the eye clinic on campus downtown and finally get my glasses replaced.

But it's still really ridiculously early for me to be up. Blarg.
I'm so friggin' tired of being broke. Just checked the bank account, and glasses are definitely not happening this paycheck.

Becca's picking up a job app from the Rock Hall today, though. There's a possibility of a night shift security job there. That'd be ideal -- if the car dies (which it likely will in the near future) she'll still be able to get to work on RTA (this has been a major issue in the past; she can't really work her current job without a car, and we can't afford a truly reliable vehicle). It's also, most importantly and gloriously, regular work. I really don't want to go through a winter like last year, with Tenable giving her a day here and two days there, and finances progressively getting more and more into the crisis zone. It's taken most of the summer to bail ourselves out of that, and we're still treading water.
I did remember to go to the 5-minute orientation-thingee for our in-building gym. My card should be in the system by Monday (we have swipe cards to get everywhere -- in order to use the gym, and be able to swipe in, you have to be programmed into the system).

And I'm calling around about selling SNAFU for scrap. I hate having a dead car in the driveway -- it leaves me paranoid about complaints from neighbors or landlords. OK, found a place, just have to find the title or get a new copy.
I'm indescribably psyched about this!

I was talking to one of my coworkers, and she told me that the Cole Eye Institute could do payroll deduction to pay for my glasses (I work for the Cleveland Clinic, Cole's a part of it, and where I was getting my glasses anyway). I called to double-check, and I'm in the lists as approved for it, so I'm going in after work today! The cost will be split over the next three months, beginning in the middle of October.

This is a beautiful, wonderful thing. I've got incredibly bad vision -- 20/1200, or thereabouts. Since I lost my glasses in June, I've been stuck with one sample pack of contact lenses. Without glasses to change into, I've been wearing them basically 24/7, sometimes taking out one at a time to soak overnight, so I'm only half-blind for the time period. It's really bad for my eyes (I've had problems with pannus in the past), and it leaves me incredibly nervous about having a contact tear, or ending up with an eye infection, or any of a number of situations where I'd be pretty well incapacitated without a backup pair of glasses. Not to mention the serious worries about damaging my eyes further. It's been a pretty-much daily stressor, and I'm feeling amazingly relieved at having a way out of that.
I'm leaving in three minutes, and the office is still full of people (I'm normally the last out), and it's just the wrong time of day!
