So we started petsitting for our neighbor's pomeranian Coco today. It's so funny to see her next to Leroy; she's so prim and perfectly preened and tiny, and he's probably close to three times her weight, and all rough and tumble (Leroy's gigantic for a fullblood Pom; we love that about him -- at least it puts him on even footing with our catzillas). Coco lives with a single very quiet owner, and isn't really socialized at all with other animals yet, so she was really nervous to start -- all quivery and quiet. We'd done some yard introductions over the weekend, but that's all so far, except for through-the-fence barkfests.
Thankfully, our critters are used to new introductions, given the number of animals we petsit or have visit, and Leroy and Tarma seemed to understand how freaked Coco was, and were both remarkably calm and quiet and serious, if curious. Grafton and Bec and I loved on her for most of the morning (there was lots of cuddling, and a decent amount of facelicking), and by the time I left for work she was curled up asleep on the couch, and seemed substantially more comfortable having other animals in close proximity. I'm really looking forward to making progress with her on the socialization; it'd be great if the petsitting ends up having long-term benefits for her and Christina in that regard. And it'd also be excellent if this helps minimize some of the mutual barking when she and our dogs are both out in the yards at the same time (She's all tough britches on her own turf, although she hasn't barked once yet in our place).
In other news, we're still having too many splashover problems with the hottub, so we've had to decommission it until we replace the flooring with the waterproof recycled rubber "elephant bark" material we're ordering. With all Caleb's recording equipment directly below, the risk of catastrophic loss is just too great. This is a bummer, but should be for too long; we were already planning the order for tax return money, and this has been high priority for a while.
They also finally announced the new work schedule start date, so as of Sunday the 14th, I'll be working weekends, and have Wed/Thurs off instead. This means being able to go back to patient-instructing, which is awesome. It also probably means better date timing with two of my partners, which also rocks.
Also, my sister-in-law
tasharowan is coming in for a few days, starting Thursday, about which I am very psyched! And G's off to Frostburn with the suburban, which seems a very appropriate christening. It has yet to be definitively named; I'm wavering between Odetta and Willie (Nelson). Aside from a minor battery issue we haven't addressed yet, it seems to be working out great for us!
And in other news, I'm really tired and introverted at the moment. Not depressed, just fatigue issues. Blarg.
