Daily life and critter update
Oct. 7th, 2010 03:21 amI've been noticing that it's been quite a while since I wrote any thinkety posts. I've been in a very internal sort of mood for the past several months - a typical part of how my moods cycle, really. I'm really massively household-focused, and most of what I do ponder in the meantime doesn't get to the point of postiness before I get distracted by practical considerations. I'm not depressed, just not in a highly socially interactive phase (sadly for my partners, this also tends to mean my libido drops to about zero).
The household focus has been productive, though. The new chore and project lists are helping us finally get moving on some stuff, and the houses are getting progressively more livable. We're having household meetings every two weeks to set goals and assign tasks, and the current projects involve winterizing the houses, working on an improvement to water run-off and pest prevention around the base of the houses, and reorganizing the back house downstairs front that's meant to be comic vault/dance studio/couchsurfer space, but which has actually been storage for the past year. I'm currently working on plans for heavy duty shelving to support Jer's comic boxes in the comic vault, and it looks like we have a plan. The budget discussion a few weeks ago has born fruit, and I'm a lot less financially stressed than I was, although still digging out of a hole for a while longer yet, so the household expenditures are more bare-bones than we're used to. Even that is still a better circumstance than many folks in the current economy, so I don't really feel like complaining too much. We're still benefiting massively from economies of scale with seven of us living here, I just want to get moving on paying Dad back the money I owe him.
And the front house chore list and plan of attack is helping massively in terms of livability of our space. Everything is so much cleaner, there's more accountability and acknowledgment, and with my obsessive-compulsive tendencies I'm absolutely loving having a list to check off each day. The flexibility of the system works well with my need to adapt to my work schedule and my fibro flares, so I actually feel like I'm carrying my load of the chores for the first time in a while.
Speaking of the fibro, we're in the midst of the roughest season for me, and I've been flaring moderately for a few weeks. Tuesday was an FMLA day, and I just slept and slept and slept some more. I'm concerned that my wrists are bothering me as much as they are already, since last year I had a lot of severe problems with being able to use my hands when the flares got bad, but the TENS unit and the hot wax bath are both standing ready, so I'm hopeful I can keep it under control. And work in general continues to fall in the "really nothing to complain about" category. I'm happy with how things are going, I love my schedule, I'm still thrilled with AwesomeSauce!Boss, and life there is generally good. I didn't end up on the schedule for patient-instructing last month, but I'm on twice this month, which should be good, and I'm escorting at the Clinic this Saturday. It'll probably be my last hoorah for the year; I've reluctantly decided I just can't do escorting in the winter without triggering flare problems that mess with my ability to work the next couple of days. Fittingly, I'll be at my favorite clinic with my favorite people as co-escorts, so I'm pretty psyched about it.
In critter news, Ringo is now completely settled in, and seems quite happy. I know I'm thrilled with him -- he's ridiculously affectionate and spends a lot of time in my lap getting scritches and bellyrubs. He's curious, and something of a troublemaker, but in remarkably charming ways, so I'm all good with it. Speaking of which, he's about to climb into my lap again and make typing impossible, so I'll probably be finishing this off relatively quickly. I woke up about an hour ago, and purring kitty on my chest is a very good motivator for going back to sleep.
