Celebrating All Mothers, Everywhere (Our Bodies, Ourselves Mother's Day post)
The goal of the Visible Paleo-Earth project is to visualize in true-colors the evolution of Earth surface from paleo-climates to today. We are using paleogeography and paleoclimate reconstructions combined with NASA satellite imagery to generate our best interpretation of the global visual appearance of Earth in the last 750 million years, as seem from space.

You deserve high-quality abortion care regardless of your gender (Or..."Man in the clinic" Pt. 2!)
Trans men have abortions. Gender-queer people have abortions. Two-spirit people have abortions. People who do not fit into the box of 'woman' have abortions. This is the reality we live in, and the more we pretend otherwise, the more dangerous it is for other people. (all of this also applies to what is generally known as "women's health care", and it's a touchy and serious subject)

Founded in 1973, Ipas is a global nongovernmental organization dedicated to ending preventable deaths and disabilities from unsafe abortion. This is about their new project, Because Magazine. Aimed at U.S. readers, this magazine highlights reproductive health and rights around the world and makes a connection between U.S. policy and global health (published twice a year). Available online in PDF format or send us email at because_magazine@ipas.org to be added to the print mailing list.
Mother's Day is the day we celebrate women who brought us into their families, cared for us, and have supported us through our ups and downs.
This is also a great day to celebrate choice. I celebrate the people who chose to be moms, but I also celebrate the people who didn't choose to be moms or become a mom again. I celebrate the women who took on the challenge and those that knew they could not. As About A Girl has said, parenthood is hard work even when it was deeply desired -- imagine how much harder when it wasn't -- and deserves to happen with all the readiness and support it can. Motherhood should be voluntary, freely and happily chosen, not forced.
The Repeat Abortion Patient -- The comments get into the many reasons this may happen. One of the best: "Speaking for only myself: We spend approximately THIRTY YEARS at risk for pregnancy, so I feel like whether you're careless or careful, with great birth control access or none, the math says that over one's lifetime, one or more unplanned pregnancies is really not surprising at all. (Sometimes I think it's miraculous that it isn't even more common than it is.)" -- some people will always be statistical outliers. Some will simply get pregnant more easily. I'm extremely uncomfortable with the idea that number of abortions tells me much of anything about someone except how many abortions they've had.
