The Barker and Lackey are both sequels to other books of theirs that I've read -- Sanctuary is book 3 of Lackey's Alta series, and the Barker is a sequel to Abarat, which I read last weekend. I'm do have a soft spot for series, because I like to immerse myself in a world, so I'm looking forward to both of them.
I added the Sarah Vowell books after a Daily Show interview, I think. My primary source of book recs is LJ, closely followed by Daily Show and Colbert Report. Darn list is growing faster than I can read books off of it.
I think Joan and Vernor have split now, but yes, they were a couple for many years. I like both their work, although I encountered Joan long before Vernor -- I just got into his stuff this past year or so, and was quite pleased.
