I read that vote caging article a couple of days ago and was really ticked off. When I think about that, and the way that the Franklin County Board sent two machines to the Driving Park precinct (in poor, mostly black, east Columbus), only to have one of the machines malfunction, while suburban precincts got five or six machines per precinct, I know that they were disenfranchising the black voters of this county. Add in that vote caging information, and it seems they were doing everything that they could to keep the votes of those blacks who managed to cast a ballot from having it counted. And yet, this is the party that expected to garner a fair portion of that same black vote simply because they ran a black candidate in last fall's elections? Maybe that's why Strickland won, because they just figured that the black people would vote for the black guy, so no need to disenfranchise them in that election?

I really hate the GOP apparatus. They make me want to violently retch. And I really hope that some day people wake up and realize that this isn't all just "conspiracy theories", that there are people out there who are really trying to nullify the votes of minority communities.

Amen to that. It's one of my biggest frustrations -- there's a huge group of people out there these days who are having to preface everything we say with "I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but..." because things just really are that phenomenally fuckered.

I'd give a cheer for that legislation except I'm still so disgusted with 2004 that I can't give a cheer for much of anything.
