My Calendar has totally failed me. So I thought I couldn't go to this event, because I'd somehow got it into my head that it was Friday, and that's [livejournal.com profile] grf's last day in town. And then I talked to [livejournal.com profile] jen_tel last night, and now I've got plans to go see Dar Williams with her at Oberlin on Saturday night. And then I just realized, as I was going through my email, that this event is happening Saturday, not Friday. Argh, Argh, Argh!!

(and [livejournal.com profile] jen_tel rocks, and is letting my spacey self off the hook, so I'm definitely going!)

"Field Trip"
Saturday, September 8, 6pm to midnight
Cleveland Museum of Natural History

RSVP required to ian.charnas@gmail.com

Let's get right to the point. You are hereby invited to what some
will call the greatest party/fundraiser of their lives. Sounds like a
lot of hot air and braggadocio, doesn't it? Well lend me your ear for
just a moment...

The theme for the party is "Junior High", which means we're starting
at 6pm with "recess" (dodgeball, kickball, four-squares) on the lawn
just outside the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which we will
TOTALLY OWN for the night of Saturday September 8th. At the same time
"music class" and "science class" will be outside, represented by an
enormously wet and playable water-organ (so big we have to hook it up
to a fire-hydrant), and a giant tesla coil for when it gets a little
darker. After a school meal (sloppy tacos) we'll be taking a field
trip inside the museum, where "students" can use their time to take a
Sex-Ed class (taught by the young firebrand woman that's teaching
progressive sex-ed to cleveland's youth), test out a real-life Hickey
Machine, get checked at the Lice-Check station, play some Pinball, try
to get their friend's older sister to buy them something at the cash
bar, pet the opossum and other live animals, check out the custom
amped-up version of the plantetarium show, attend Gym Class with
Cleveland's "Double Dutch Will Take You Higher" performance jump-rope
team, take in a "Drama Club" performance by Columbus performance
artists Queen Mae and the Bells, and party through a Homecoming dance
with Afro-Electronique music by Mifune echoing off the dinosaurs in
the Kirtland Hall of Prehistoric Life... and that's not to mention a
few surprises we've got planned. The museum is ours, and we intend to
rock out.

The purpose of the party is that it's a fundraiser for the C-Space
community center (clevelandspace.org). They need money for rent on
the building and insurance for the children or adults using the
center. Nobody gets paid to work there, it's all 100% volunteer.

So, we're taking $5 - $10 suggested donations at the door ($2 for
kids), then there will be donations at the Hickey Machine and for the
food, and of course the cash bar proceeds will go towards the
community center as well. All of the performance artists and
bartenders and hall monitors and chefs and cleanup crews and
industrial designers and scientists are donating their time in order
to make this dream happen. All you need to do is attend and have the
time of your lives! Free parking available in the museum lot, on wade
oval, and overflow parking at the VA hospital lot 1 block away. Easy
to get to from the E. 120th stop on the red-line rapid, or any bus
that goes to university circle. Just behind the art museum.

With the help of some friends, we printed, signed, and delivered 1000
invitations. We're all out! If you would like to come and you
haven't received an invitation, please send an email with your full
name to ian.charnas@gmail.com saying you'd like to be on the list, and
your name will be put on the list at the ticket table. Don't forget
this important step!

Aww, man. That sounds like so much fun. :) If I weren't going to be out of town this weekend, I'd seriously consider going. :)

Doesn't it, though? And C-Space is a very cool local activism project that I keep perpetually meaning to get more involved with.

OT, but my world got a bit smaller today. I mentioned your name at the Kent State Black Squirrel Festival today (just your first name) in regards to clinic escorts, and they guy I've been hanging out with on campus knew *precisely* who you were, and named you by LJ name. The girl at the table knew of you, too. Both had awesome things to say about you!

Oh yes, my world just got about 6 times smaller. :)

*hee* Oh, cool! Who was it?

I do love the small world phenomenon.

*chuckle* Knows me better than most, definitely. That's my little brother. I was expecting it to be one of the folks from Kent who escort with us (there are six or seven of them right now).

I've emailed Casey and Ezra; I'm definitely hoping they'll be available too -- I think it'd be fun to have a whole group of us.

I'm really, unreasonably excited. Play in the museum? Why, yes, thank you.

I'm really psyched; I found out about it from Nikki, actually, at PI.

I loved the event I went to at the museum in the spring. Drunk planetarium show rocks!

Most definitely!

I'm guessing there were some creative drinks?

It's entirely possible, but as the non-drinker in the group, I haven't the foggiest.
