All packed...

Well, I need to get two last things from Bec, and then I'm officially all set.
I'm going to miss my critters immensely. I always have trouble staying places with no pets. Maybe if I'm lucky the wildlife from the back still comes down onto Gramps' patio at night. I used to plaster myself to the patio glass to watch the skunks, opossums, foxes, and raccoons. It's where I developed my enduring fondness for skunks, actually (despite getting sprayed once). If I didn't have pets that are frankly incompatible, I'd seriously consider getting a descented skunk as a pet. They remind me a good bit of ferrets without the mania.
Anyway, I finished Tipping the Velvet on the way home. Immensely enjoyable, in a way that almost surprised me, since the main character really isn't all that sympathetic (at least to me) for a good deal of the book. Much redeemed by fabulous queerness of myriad sorts, though (the book, not the protagonist, although that argument could also be made, I suppose). I loved the miniseries so much that it's actually hard for me to tell how much the feel of that affected my reading. The miniseries and the book are both divided in thirds -- I found the first third to match almost exactly (inasmuch as the practicalities of the media allow it), but progressively greater variation through to the end, to the point that I was quite surprised several times. I definitely highly recommend both, though, most especially for anyone interested in queerness and gender and cross-dressing. Also, mmmm-sexy. Both, emphatically. Yum. Does remind me that my favorite new word recently has been andromimetophilia.
OK, Bec's home. Time for some last hanging out before I head out.

Date: 2007-09-26 09:05 pm (UTC)Thank Maude! He's definitely helping keep me sane.
I documented the house today. Too bad we couldn't get pictures of it a decade ago, when the gardens were in full bloom.
