et tu, Amsterdam?
fascinating -- an emergent gender-neutral pronoun? (link from

Apparently I'm in need of fidgety, obsessive little projects. Now that I've finished the basic catalogging of my library, and reorganized all the quick calls in our Helpdesk database, I'm working on consolidating all the email from all my old emails accounts into my current account. Oy. I've cleared out the three that had the least built up. I'm slowly tackling two more that aren't too horrible. And then there's my main old hotmail account. More than a decade of email. And from what I can find, since it's really not in their interests to make it simple for me to abandon their service, there doesn't seem to be a simple way to do this, given that my main account now is also web-based (although if anyone has ideas, I'm certainly open to them!). I've forwarded about a thousand emails so far. I figure I've got at least three times that much left to do. I'm also being extra-obsessive about chronicling what I'm watching recently. I wonder where this is all coming from?
I also made my uber-To Do List today. "Catch up on LJ" is indeed on there.

They'll both probably require knocking around a bit with perl and a fairly long-running batch job to do the actual download somewhere with a decent connection. If you want a hand with either I'm all yours.

Date: 2008-01-07 03:57 am (UTC)I think their situation is akin to the Deadheads in San Francisco two decades ago. (Albeit ours was on a much smaller scale, of course.) Outsiders thought they were cool. Residents saw the serious damage they caused in Golden Gate Park (some parts were so badly trashed they had to be completely re-landscaped), the escalating crime related to theft and drug use (with possibly more serious crimes, such as rape,) and garbage, with its rodent and insect followers, everywhere they went. It was disgusting. I think my mom felt the same way when all those hippies arrived in the 1960s.
