Fun evening

I took yesterday off work, since I'm working Saturday, and had the option. Got a lot done in the house, and the extra sleep also helped with this weather-induced fibro flare. I did make it in to patient-instructing, although it was a rather lackluster session. After that, though, I got together with two friends for dinner (I hadn't been to Mint Tree in Coventry before, but their food is quite tasty), and then we went back to my place so I could run an informal "overview of finding good non-exploitive porn" with visual aids. Lots of fun and good conversation and highly entertaining clips. I was thinking about writing up the titles and why I chose various scenes from them, but it occurs to me that it'd mostly be a recap of the porn reviews and "what I look for" I've already posted here in my sexuality filter, so I guess I'll skip that.

Today was not the easiest trip in to work, though. Since I didn't go into work yesterday, I forgot to get my new weekly bus pass, and mine was expired as of this morning, and I had no cash. I thought I'd hit the MAC around the corner, which dispenses tens, and if I were really out of luck with the driver, just end up eating the loss on a $4 daypass. Nope. MAC "cannot dispense cash at this time". So, standing at the stop near the MAC (the one without the bus shelter -- did I mention the wind and the glaze of ice over everything this morning?), waiting for the bus, hoping I'd be able to sweet-talk the driver into letting me ride free to Tower City so I could buy my weekly pass there. And standing there. And standing there. For 40 minutes. I was as close to positive as I could be that I hadn't missed it, but the one I eventually caught came by at the same time as the next in the route, jammed with twice as many people -- apparently the ice was slowing them down. Thankfully the driver did take pity on me, though, and things improved from there; when I got downtown I even ran into one of the two local homeless folks I've got ongoing friendships with; I hadn't seen him in months, so that was reassuring, especially given that I'd also seen Grace just earlier that week. It's frustrating when you don't see people you worry about anymore, and you're not sure whether it's because things have gotten substantially better for them, or maybe substantially worse. Given the state of the economy in the Cleveland, and the Guiliani-esque attempts to make our homeless problem less inconvenient to the people who'd rather not think about it (which has a lot to do with why I haven't seen Paul or Grace in months -- the cops are being really aggressive downtown), I tend to worry it's the latter unless I know otherwise. Incidentally, random suggestion for folks who do want to give something out to folks on the street, but don't feel comfortable giving cash, and don't want the hassle of carrying perishables -- at least if you're in the north, it's often easy to pick up extra pairs of gloves for one to two bucks. They're easy to keep in your regular bag, and they're always appreciated, even if they're an extra layer under the person's existing gloves (hell, I often wear layered pairs when I'm just out escorting for four hours -- extremities get cold fast). Our local corner store started carrying them recently, and that's when it occurred to me that I could toss a few pairs in my bag. I like that I have them handy even when I don't happen to have any change, and I think I've already given out about a half dozen pairs in the past two months. Dried fruit's also a long-lasting backpack standard for me, and also tends to be well-received.

Life is otherwise quite chill, and going well. I'd appreciate it if they'd stop the core drills in the ceiling above us, though.

Core-drills -- that's what it sounds like at least, from my previous experience with them -- it's when they need to drill down through a big ol' concrete floor and leave room for a conduit or something to go through. It does leave a funny "core" of concrete afterward, though. We used to use them for doorstops.

Nope, tweren't me!
