So, I bounced here on Jan 22nd about finally getting my period back. I was rather hoping that when my body finally decided to reassert itself it would do so firmly, and my cycles would return to normal pretty quickly, but wasn't necessarily expecting that to be the case, since it often isn't when coming off Depo. I knew it was entirely possible that I wouldn't have another cycle for maybe a few months, possibly even longer. However, initial evidence is that things are returning to normalcy quickly; I started my period again today, 38 days later. That's very close to "normal cycle length" of 28 plus or minus 7. Must remember to try those Instead that Becca has around somewhere.

Hey, I started my period today, too!

Regular cycle continues. Huzzah. (Would like to fight off menopause a wee bit longer, and actually try for kids.)

Regularity is actually still a bit of a new and exciting thing for me. I had very light, irregular periods for most of my post-adolescence. It wasn't 'til I moved in with the boy that they got both heavy and regular. Okay, that's 7 years, but it's still new & exciting for me.

I'm not entirely certain what normal is for me; there has been very little time from age 16 on that I haven't been on a hormonal form of birth control. I'm finding this to be a new and fascinating exploration...

i am so curious what other girls think of being controlled by these synthetic hormones. i haven't had a period since i was 17 because of them, and sometimes it's a little weird.

I have very mixed feelings about it. 1) I'm really glad there are choices out there about all this. 2) I'd really like better options, with fewer side-effects 3) Sometimes the effects, like ammenorrhea, can be convenient, but I generally find that the disconnect from my body's natural functioning isn't worth the trade-off for me. Of course, I like my body's natural functioning, and get kind of geeky about it at times, and I know other people who have much less positive interactions with theirs (extremely painful periods and such). I'm really glad that options exist for minimizing those for them. Still want fewer side-effects.

I wonder quite a bit about the long-term effects, like 10+ years of usage. I'm sure that most of them are unknown, given that it's only been a few decades, and look at all they keep finding out about hormone replacement therapy.

i don't really have any opinion on the disconnect from my body's natural functioning. i don't have any therapeutic reason for taking hormones, and it is weird sometimes.

I think it'll probably be a very long time before we know the effects of most of the things we're currently exposing our systems to. It's frustrating, because I hate making guesses without full information about what's best for me.
