Argh. Tech help?

So, I picked up a cheapie webcam from ebay (logitech clone -- Look 312P). Gmail Chat sees it, and I can verify the image is coming through. Saw it once in Debut, but now Debut claims it's not installed. Logitech Quickcam still doesn't see it. I've done all the updates I could find, and I'm getting nowhere. Device manager sees it and says it's working properly. Help?

frequently what can happen is if one program seizes control of the cam, it locks out all the other. so its possible that Gchat and logitech are fighting over it, and neither is winning. I would restart your computer, and only use one program at a time to see if it shows up.

I've tried rebooting and only having one app open at a time, but still not getting anywhere; that was my thought too. I'm wondering if something's running in the background that I'm not finding that's creating the conflict.

A techie friend who _isn't_ inconveniently specialized in hospital apps is going to take a look for me, I think (I work in IT, but it's been a decade since I've done desktop support, so I'm sucking)

Nevermind having only one app running at a time, I'd suggest uninstalling one, and see what happens then.

This is very unhelpful and unrelated to this problem. But something on my flist caught me eye as something you might be interested in as a netflix alternative or netflix supplement: greencine works very similarly except that they also carry porn. Doesn't turn out to be sufficiently useful/economical for us to make the switch/addition, but figured there was a possibility that the maths would come out differently for your household.

Thanks! Definitely worth checking into; I used to have a SugarDVD subscription, but they didn't have enough of my favorite stuff to be worth keeping in the long run.
