Genetically engineered silk worms spin like spiders

I just ran the numbers, and the best spider silk is within a factor of 3.7 of what's needed to build a space elevator. So, rather than carbon nanotubes, we may eventually build such a thing using a whole lot of silk worms (roughly 0.1% of the yearly silk production of China).

News: Survey proves Americans are bigoted assholes. BTW I just had a friend come out of the closet about being trans (it was pretty well known that he was a TV, but the TS doesn't surprise me). I expect that person's life to get a whole lot more difficult medically from the local establishment around here as a MtF.

Correct verdict. Dumb law.

The graphic would be a whole lot better if two things happened:
1) It were scaled proportionately.
2) It included consistent measurements of regions which were actively cohesive rather than highly fluxuative areas which were only recently considered cohesive.

Knew about the flop that was LotR. It wasn't until later when it came into popularity (late 60's and early 70's), and didn't really get mainstream until very recently.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to deal with most medical establishments as a trans person, let alone in Alabama. If she needs help finding resources, feel free to pass along my contact info, and I'll see what I can do.
