Life and Linketies
Sep. 24th, 2011 11:34 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Doing a lot better today. Feeling fine physically, and my mood is mostly back to normal too. I've got some stressful stuff I have to deal with on Monday (financial stress crap), but I've talked myself down from my usual freak-out/avoidance thing, and reminded myself that I've actually done things in the past year to minimize how badly I can screw up (separating household and personal finances was a huge element of that; takes so much stress off my worrying about my own personal fuck-ups). So, there's that. And once I deal with it I'll feel much better. *nodnod*
In the meantime, I can't do anything about it today or tomorrow, so I'm going to have good days and not wind myself up. I have tomatoes fresh from the garden, brazil nuts, and lots of other goodies. I've got all the Six Feet Under discs that finally arrived yesterday. As I said to NL earlier today, this particular mess may be stressful, and hit a lot of my anxiety buttons, but life doesn't suck.

Rosanne Barr speaks at Occupy Wall Street protest
Created by Toronto activist and feminist hero, Jessica Whitbread, No Pants No Problem is the ultimate safe space: A sex-positive, anti-stigma, pantless dance party where people are encouraged to explore their sexuality while thinking about safe sex and gender norms. Proceeds from the September 10th party were donated the AIDS Committee of Toronto (via the AIDS Walk for Life) and the International Community of Women Living with HIV.
Friction about the roles of women in the Obama White House grew so intense during the first two years of the president’s tenure that he was forced to take steps to reassure senior women on his staff that he valued their presence and their input. -- Although I'm not averse to complaining about Obama, in this case I think the full article makes it clear that it was a problem, and that he was central in addressing it as it should have been, and helping to improve things.
A moment of silence
A new study out of the University of Michigan Medical School found that around 8% of women suffer from vulvodynia, a frustratingly mysterious condition whose symptoms include pain during sex. It’s estimated that 25% of women will have vulvodynia at some point in their lives. (another of those obnoxious "commonly comorbid with fibro" disorders, so I've had problems with it occasionally, although thankfully not very frequently.)

As IREHR recently noted, some national nativist groups appear to be changing course, and preparing to launch a campaign to restrict documented immigration. If this shift in nativist strategy fully materializes, it is likely to alter the terms of discussion by policymakers and the public.

Steven Jay Gould’s The Mismeasure of Man, published in 1981, was a formative book for me. I’ve always thought of it as two books at once: first, it’s a book about the history of IQ studies and the false belief that Africans have smaller skulls (and thus, by inaccurate extension) less brain capacity than white people. Second, it’s a book about how scientists’ biases affect their results, even when they are working in complete good faith.

Date: 2011-09-25 04:56 am (UTC)I love nudibranchs.
I am in complete agreeance on the Obama was always a centrist, though he's drifted further right as he's tried to be a "uniter" or "bi-partisan". I'm equally disappointed in how poor his constitutional record has been.
(sigh) We've create a lot of "false" money in this nation with four major bubbles. Two have burst, one has a serious patch-job, and we're waiting on the fourth. (Stock, Mortgage, High Finance, and Loans).
Um, those ads would seriously destroy any romance with any sane guy. Most guys stop dead in their tracks when the mention of their car being wrecked. Instant boner-be-gone. It's probably do some major long term damage to the relationship. To say nothing of the message that's being sent in the ad. Disgusting. And the mother-in-law? Yeah that would probably result in divorce papers if he wasn't consulted. Seriously, bad bad bad relationship idea.
I don't think I'd compare Barack's record to Clinton's. Very different economies and world issues.
*fumes over religious favoritism and violation of separation of church and state* Isn't AA bad enough? As for the pastor, I cite the numbnuts that blow up abortion clinics as people who "fall in love with Jesus" who are a MAJOR FUCKING PROBLEM FOR SOCIETY!
