Can't Carry a Tune? Work Out Your Vocal Muscles -- I don't normally post links to their story stubs, but in this case, this gives me a good deal of hope; I've always been extraordinarily frustrated by my lack of basic musical ability, and how that affects my confidence in group singing environments (which I actually really enjoy aside from that).

Gender Fierce Anthem [Video]

These aren't necessarily any more graphic than anything else I link to, but these sites ping my office censorware, so they might ping yours too. (reading them on my phone to get around that at the moment)

Mary Sue What Are You, or why the concept of sue is sexist -- I hadn't thought of it this way, but she makes a lot of sense.

From slutty to horny. -- Good maude, YES to all of this.

What do you want? -- And again she is full of the awesome!

Watch "Safe Abortion Saves Women's Lives" -- IPAS is an awesome international organization doing great work.

OK, I think that's really it. And besides, my replacement should be here soon, and I'm still waiting to see them take down Santa and the Elves in Rare Imports.

Of course Mary Sue is sexist. That's because males are Marty Stu. Batman is a Marty Stu, and Marty is every bit as old (or older) as a trope. Though Batman typically gets a pass as an original character (or at least the first successful version of a now dated trope). Discussion fail on the part of the author.

I don't think it's discussion fail on her part. I think the point she's making is that Marty Stus exist, but that the very gendered reaction is predominately toward women who write Mary Sues, and that this is a problem. That level of disdain is very rarely leveled at male writers of Marty Stus in the same way, as partially evidenced by the fact that the term itself is a later gender-flipped adaptation of the more well-known Mary Sue.

Thanks for the links on Mary Sue and then the Pervocracy. I struggle with sex and am a long, long way from being comfortable with my body. Reading essays like the ones on Pervocracy give me a different perspective, different ways to think about sex, and challange me to face the problems I have. Thanks.
