Chicago was fun...
May. 15th, 2006 08:58 am... waking up this morning at 6am wasn't.
I'm definitely a bit sleep-deprived at the moment, despite managing to get some on the bus on the way home. Ah well, totally worth it.
I did end up taking megabus to Chicago, and it was in general approximately equivalent to Greyhound, except that the lack of a in person ticket/info counter does mean that if the bus is late, you just have to hope it'll be along sooner rather than later (more of a prob on the way back -- apparently due to a shortage of busses, mine arrived about an hour late). Other than that, it was fine.
forestfire had arrived a bit earlier than me, and all four of us (the other two being our hosts,
napalmmk9 and
motordyke) stayed up relatively late talking and catching up. (point of historical reference -- Napalmmk9 and I went to the same college, and Forestfire and I met through him; we've known each other for something approaching a decade now, I think).
Saturday we had a very tasty breakfast and threw around some ideas for the day, but eventually concluded that we were all feeling lazy, and it was raining outside, and hanging out together relaxing and ordering Thai delivery was a perfectly acceptable plan for the day. We also spent a while looking through
napalmmk9's photo album, which was an entertaining trip down memory lane in a lot of ways. Incidentally, I've now encountered my new favorite photo of myself.
forestfire and I have requested that he scan quite a number of the photos for us, and I'm looking forward to getting those.
Later in the evening we headed out to meet up with
leveldeaded, Megan M, and Curry, all Kenyon folk in the Chicago area. After Megan and Leveldeaded had to leave, we headed back to the house with Curry and a few other folks, and made another late night of it.
Sunday we slept in, then had lunch (very tasty shrimp/coconut milk/potato chowder that
motordyke made) with the upstairs neighbors/landlord (who was also at the bar and the party on Saturday night with a friend of hers). Nothing too much between lunch and me heading out for the bus station except packing, and some more chatting.
And I'm singularly displeased with my ability to relate the weekend in this post. Longstanding friendship dynamics don't lend themselves to easy explanation. It was a very comfortable, relaxing, highly enjoyable time.
