My head is not in Cleveland...

Looking at Monster.com right now. Looks like there's a decent number of postings for helpdesks of various sorts in the Albany area. Encouraging. Good. Hopefully that'll continue to be the case. I'll need to do some brushing up on some of my skills before I move, though. I've been dealing primarily with specialized hospital apps for the last three years.
I'm tempted to go look at possible networking and cabling jobs, but I know that's really not a great idea. The fibro may be more under control than it was when I last did that kind of work, but I don't particularly want to tempt fate right now. Still... tempting. Less office-drag, more work-boots and ladders and fun toys.
Ew. I just realized that if I end up in another office, I'm going to have to get used to doing office-drag all over again. Folks here have gotten used to my complete and utter disregard for the dress code (and I'm in an area where it doesn't really matter). Erg. I'm really not looking forward to having to re-earn the right to be my generally freakish self all over again. Here, the odds of me getting in serious trouble for much of anything I do are pretty slim, since I've got excellent call stats, the users say nice things about me, and I've been doing my job well for the past three years. I'm going to have to be new somewhere again. I hate that.
Stuck in my head at the moment:
Tech-N9ne, Slacker
Imma slacker, never did I have a lot of dough
Imma slacker, smoking pot and watchin' videos
Imma slacker, go whichever way the wind blows
Those just tuning in I'm just letting' ya know
That Imma slacker, every time I take a look around
Imma slacker, stuck upon my face is a frown
I don't do enough, I just fool around
Ya'll can go to hell, how does that sound

Date: 2003-07-24 01:57 pm (UTC)Part of it, for me, is that Austin is so much more laid back in general than Chicago but ABN was hardcore corporate megacorp bullshit and the pleasure of having a decent work environment and non-paranoid co-workers now, is totally worth the gigantic cut in pay.
Of course I just got lucky. I was so broke that I would've worked at a kitten smashing factory just to get some green when I slipped in here.

and don't track mud over the carpet! You aren't going out like that are you? You'll catch cold! Eat eat, look at you you're like a scarecrow!
okay, I'll stop.
