We've been working through the mayor's office to try to get the police to actually enforce the federal laws on the books, and they're being less than helpful (this is a very long-standing issue).

there is an abortion doctor in cleveland, ohio, who is
in need of your assistance.
it doesn't matter what the doctor's name is ... what does
matter is that an abortion doctor is being harassed and
terrorized by anti-choice activists while walking in to and
out of an abortion clinic.
some of you may be thinking: so what is new about that?
what is new about it is that anti-choice activists are asking
the doctor if he has on his bullet-proof vest and telling him
that he needs to wear more than that ... like a helmet
and something on his arms and legs, too.
more than one anti-choice activist said this and it's obvious
that they've talked about it.
what is new about it is two anti-choice activists were openly
discussing what impact a .357 magnum would have on
the doctor's vest.
what's even more alarming is that this all started after
paul hill was executed on 9.3.03 for assassinating an
abortion doctor, an escort and wounding another escort.
(hill murdered them in 1994.)
if these things were said and done in an airport,
people would be held accountable.
if these things were said and done in downtown new york,
people would be held accountable.
if these things were said to principals of a high school,
people would be held accountable.
this is happening to an abortion doctor at an abortion clinic and
PEOPLE NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
for those wondering why an abortion doctor wears a bullet-proof
vest ---> almost every abortion doctor in the u.s.a. wears
a vest, has bullet-proof walls and glass in their clinics,
some drive bullet-proof cars and some wear wigs to
go grocery shopping. *this* is what it's like being an
abortion doctor in a country where abortion
is still legal.
let's get back to the doctor in cleveland, ohio.
recently, we met with city officials about the
doctor's situation. it was a two-hour meeting.
while they seemed receptive, they are not
accustomed to this kind of situation. we need
them to understand that we want them to protect
abortion doctors and abortion clinics.
when abortion doctors are being asked about their bullet-proof
vests, we need to pay attention to what is being said.
it's also important that we **do** something about it.
i turn to you because what you do can make a difference
and I'm hoping you'll help. please don't think:
someone else will make the calls or send the emails.
this action is up to **you.** what **you** do matters.
if you are pro-choice, please make the calls and/or send the emails.
if you say you are undecided but think it's wrong to terrorize doctors,
please make the calls and/or send emails.
if you claim that you are against abortion, yet say you
think it's wrong to murder doctors, it's *time* you make these
calls and/or send emails.
this country can't afford to have one less abortion provider.
it can't.
please remain respectful so your words can't be dismissed.
if you can't do that, then have someone else make the calls
or send the emails. *we* will set the tone and we will take the
high road and not stoop to anti-choice activists' tactics.

meeting with people about this. i want to know that city officials
are going to use preventative measures so this doctor is safe

history:
in 1991 (and earlier years), when abortion clinics were closed
due to anti-choice demonstrators blocking entrance to abortion
clinics, it was ordinary people like you and me who stopped
that tactic from continuing.
we did this by being trained on how to become human shields
to block antis' efforts. we did this by taking to the streets.
in 1992, buffalo, ny, we made history and kept a clinic open.
so, when people say that street activism doesn't make a difference,
please reconsider.
why do you think people like mother jones and other
organizers and street activists aren't included
in mainstream history?
---> there is power in people uniting for a common cause.
it's time for a change in tactics. we need to watch out for
the abortion doctors who are still practicing. it is up to
those of us in the community we live in to protect
abortion doctors who were demonized for far too many years.
