Something I've noticed is that many of my most enjoyable visits with people are hard to write about because it's not really about 'events' -- we may get around to going out and doing something or other noteworthy, but the central aspect of the enjoyment is in the spending of time together. I'm a big fan of "hanging out". I have many excellent memories of time with forestfire just out running errands, or playing board games with cjdoyle and jenx, or sitting in the kitchen talking napalmmk9 and motordyke, and so on. It's true about time with my family, too. Our annual get-together is often as much about sitting around in our hotel/timeshare thingee doing jigsaw puzzles and talking as anything else. Time together -- time for conversation and relaxation -- is what I most value. I certainly have fun going out and doing things, too, but it's often also, at its core, partially a chance for more conversation and time together. Walking on the beach with Fin, or around Cedar Point with the family, or Origins with Heron, or Montreal with Rysmiel, -- all chances for conversation.

So, I had a wonderful weekend with [livejournal.com profile] lunatickle and [livejournal.com profile] fabulousmisst, in all those ways that are so much harder to convey than tales of 'events'. I got time with both of them, got to enjoy their presences, and have long conversations, and cuddle, and all of that wonderful stuff. Which seems like very little to say, but it exactly what I hoped for, and what I would most enjoy (ok, also good food -- all of the above is even better with the addition of good food, which was plentiful).

Also, I really enjoy working on projects. Really, quite a bit. In large part, it's a way of expressing affection. Also, practical stuff is where I feel competent and confident, and that's a generally good and rewarding feeling. And I like being able to see exactly what has been accomplished; again, a good feeling. And being complimented and appreciated for that definitely doesn't suck. So the apartment now has very basic little window seats and a pseudo-dumbwaiter that it didn't come with. And I got to spend more time in Home Depot than I have in years, and play with power tools all day Monday. Oh, I had fun!

Also, Whipped, the new BDSM collection edited by Carol Queen, is much fun for reading aloud. And "The Rubber Chicken Scene" is so deeply Peepish/Otisian that I'm very tempted to buy my own copy just so I can call various friends and read it to them. And along more innocent lines, I got to read [livejournal.com profile] fabulousmisst two of my favorite fairy tales -- Tatterhood, and Three Strong Women -- from the collection my grandmother gave me when I was young.

And in other news of the visit, BWI may be my new favorite airport to fly into -- the view of the coast, and all the little inlets, is absolutely gorgeous. Their new neighborhood is awesome, too; right in the city, part of the gayborhood, and with excellent food options everywhere (a good way to my heart is to find a place that delivers standard american breakfast fare, sushi, smoothies, and amazing desserts -- also hookahs and mix CDs, but that's more 'interesting marketing' than 'path to my heart', really). And the apartment is gorgeous; giant windows, one room with wonderfully high ceilings and prime peoplewatching vantages, and a nifty (if sometimes difficult to navigate) spiral staircase that links the upstairs and downstairs -- it used to be two separate apartments. And it's an old building. I love old buildings. Especially those with funky little grotesques carved on the front.

So, yes. Excellent visit. And Sunday evening rocked.

"The Rubber Chicken Scene"???

Do tell!

I can think of a thousand things that could be an appropriate title for ranging from the ghastly to the hilarious

Definitely on the hilarious end. Only a bit of very mild sexual content, really, although it definitely helps to understand dungeon etiquette.

Like it's rude to pull a Houdini with the handcuffs or to leave your gum on the whipping post overnight?

Really though the important question is here, what in this context to the actual words mean. Because each has so many different potential meanings it's like a rubix cube of possibilities ranging from an event involving a comedic prop to a trend of people afraid of using erasers.

Most definitely a comedic prop. One of many.

I know just what you meant. Frequently, the doing is second to the chilling with folks you love.
