Amazing sweep on reproductive rights last night!! -- This is incredible news, and much better than I was fearing.

On the downside, lots of bad news for GLBT folks around the country -- more bans on adoption, more discrimination in constitutions. My heart's especially hurting for my friends in California, and although I'm not yet willing to stop holding my breath, hoping for a turnaround on the numbers, I know it's unlikely.

Also, I was sorry to see the Prop 5 fail in CA; it could've been a great model for prison and incarceration/drug-treatment reform. However, the marijuana initiatives in Michigan and Massachusetts passed, which is good news!

Edit: Looks like a mandatory recount for Franken!

In Ohio, I'm pretty much ecstatic; all the ballot issues went how I was hoping, Kucinich kept his seat, we got Marcia Fudge to replace Stephanie Tubbs-Jones (who died earlier this year), and OHIO FINALLY WENT BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the downside, Election Protection is reporting problems with people being inexplicably dropped from the rolls in Ohio -- it disenfranchised one of my coworkers who didn't know to fight for at least a provisional ballot

Unfortunately, my flare came back with a vengeance last night, so I was varying between dozing and watching the returns, but I did see Obama's speech in real time, and was duly impressed, yet again. The joy on RTA this morning was absolutely contagious. Let's hear it for making some history!

Yeah, fucking A on the prez election and the reproductive rights all across the board. Prop 8 and Amendment 2 in Florida, etc. make me sick, but I doubt they'll go down quietly.

I slept through the concession and victory speeches, but my loyal spousie woke me to tell me Obama had won. I remember cheering and then wondering about local elections and suddenly getting teary about STJ all over again. I have a good feeling about Ms. Fudge, though--wasn't she STJ's chief of staff at one point? We've kept Betty Sutton in place down here.

Something like that, at least, although I don't recall the details. She seems like she's right up STJ's alley in terms of perspectives and approaches though; I'm more than happy to give her the benefit of the doubt and see how she does.

It's a very fetching color for us... Here's hoping it's a long-term wardrobe change!

It occurs to me, that Cali's prop may yet be unconstitutional even though it's a constitutional amendment. Cali has anti-discrimination language in the constitution which I believe may have sufficient standing to strike it down, though the courts may be unwilling to read such a challenge.

BTW what the hell is up with 50+1 votes changing constitutions? That's just wrong.

Otherwise... well fuck. Damned hateful people.
