If you've seen it, and dug it, you definitely need to see Forbidden Zone just to note the weird similarities in the music and style. We were all commenting on that last night while we were watching it. It's bizarre. Ok, anything to do with Forbidden Zone is guaranteed to be bizarre, but still...

Also, every time we do these voicemail recordings, my boss insists I've missed my calling and should consider doing voiceover work instead. Which is mostly just flattering, but does leave me mildly curious about job possibilities in that regard. At least, it makes me curious on days when our users are driving me batshit.

I have been told similar things most of my adult life. "You ought to be in radio!" "You could make it big in radio or doing voice work!"
Oddly enough, none of these people work in radio, or have ever offered me any sort of job, or sent anyone my way. Hmm.. one ponders the authority wherewith these people speak.

In other news, having looked into radio, I can tell you that while big, big money can be made, once you become a 'personality' (think Stern or Mark and Dave, etc) the majority of the dj's have to supplement their income with ads, most of which pay such high flown wages as $10-$50 a spot, and take little more than most of an afternoon to cut. Oooo..we're going to be rolling in it.

On the other hand, it sure seems to me that a telecom company could use a decent voice recording scripts for those ever popular telephone hell messages;
"Your call is important to us. No really. That's why they paid me to say that! Please continue to hold while we assault your brain with badly copied recordings of Barry Manilow doing Mandy and Copa Cabana. Fortunately the static isn't so bad you can't quite make out the tune. Someone will be with you soon, and if you believe any of this, you'll also believe we'll honor that warranty you paid an extra $2,700 for. Have a nice day."

(I know this, because they now come to me to record those messages)

Exactly the position I'm in -- apparently main campus outsources to a professional company, but we here offsite have to do our own recordings, and my boss volunteered me for it.

I'd have no interest at all in becoming a "personality" -- frankly, I don't have the personality for it. *grin* Doing moderately paid recordings doesn't sound so bad at all, especially since the phone isn't talking back to me (some days are longer than others at the helpdesk).

Well, great! Let's start the company. We can take scripts over email, and send the .wav files for them to use. :P

Workin from home..oh yeah. :)

Audio books are my newest diversion. I've found that I enjoy listening to different things than I enjoy reading, or rather more things. I'm currently going through an American history phase. I think it would rock to get to hear you read any number of things and immerse myself in your voice while I drive.

Ditto. I would really love to read Winnie the Pooh out loud. (But then, it'd never be the same. I loved Sterling Holloway's voice.)

And, btw, I liked Corpse Bride. I'll look into FZ. :)

I should warn you, my initial post, upon seeing it, was subtitled "73 minutes of WTF"

Insanely bizarre. I highly recommend listening to the commentary track, though.

I love corpse bride. I refuse to watch any more of forbidden zone than I have to.

Voice work is fun and relativly not time consuming. I've done two compu games, two radio commercials, and three radio shows. If I were you I'd check out if Cleveland has any radio show troupes. They're gaining more popularity.

Actually, it's not just Elfman doing music on Forbidden Zone; it's a whole family affair (his brother and ex-sister-in-law and a bunch of their friends), and he plays the devil, as well. But he seriously just lifted parts of the music from Forbidden Zone for Corpse Bride, I swear. And the images of the underworld in Corpse Bride and Hell in Forbidden Zone are remarkably similar.
